Pain Au Chocolate and Banana Bread Pudding

Oh, you didn't get the memo? Well, apparently the cafe was all about celebrating a bananathon this weekend. Without much planning this weekend's Brunch Specials featured: Southern Banana Pudding Ice Cream, Pain Au Chocolate & Banana Bread Pudding, as well as Caramelized Banana Cottage Cheese Pancakes. Looks like somebody is ready to shake these winter blues and eager to move on to springtime. This was NOT a test. We sincerely apologize to any banana haters out there. We knew not what we were capable of...

I happened to be an eager participant in 66.6667% of the bananza yesterday. It was quite a treat, potassilicious even, and the bacon crumbles on the bread pudding were a surprisingly awesome idea, adding a perfect amount of salty contrast to the rich chocolate and banana flavors. I had a problem expanding my stomach to the size of my eyes, so I took some of my pancakes home and devoured them around dinnertime, still being quite delicious, again that cottage cheese provides a welcome contrast to the usually sweet-only pancakes I'm used to eating. It's good to be back with your food to welcome me.

I stopped in to your lovely cafe this past Saturday, amid the snowflakes....I have to tell you that I love the way you treat me and my family -- like special guests in your home. This is my second visit, and both times were super.

I also adore your food, especially the ice cream, fab soups, and coffee. I consider stopping by a special treat and will continue to spread the word about your very special place in North Portland.
